All-American libero Mason Briggs following a Long Beach State point early in the fifth game cupped his hand to his ear while looking at the crowd.

The fans inside the Walter Pyramid didn’t need much of a prompt to get loud. The 3,786-person crowd primarily comprised of Long Beach State fans had been in a ruckus state for more than hour with the Beach mounting a comeback in the NCAA Tournament semifinals. UCLA outlasts UC Irvine in five games to reach NCAA finals

There wasn’t a doubt in Ethan Champlin’s mind that he was getting set on the final play.

With UCLA out-of-system during a rally, setter Andrew Rowan went to his primary option, setting it high for Champlin. The All-American outside attacker did what he had done all match long – finding a way to get the ball past the UC Irvine blockers.
