Puerto Rico had no answer for outside attacker Jimmie Chrusfield III.
Chrusfield finished with a match-high nine kills and zero errors on a .563 attack percentage as the United States swept Puerto Rico 25-13, 25-20, 25-15 on Thursday in Canada at the U19 NORCECA Continental Championship.
Chrusfield led players with four kills in the final game to help the United States conclude pool-play undefeated and clinch the Group B title. The United States as the group champions also will receive a bye to the semifinals.
The United States had three players with more than five kills and out-hit Puerto Rico .338 to .078.
Pin-hitter Daniel Hornyak contributed nine kills on a .412 attack percentage, including having a game-high six kills in the second game. Opposite Bryce Thistlethwaite added eight kills with four of those kills coming in the opening game.
Along with the offensive performance, both Chrusfield and Thistlethwaite had a match-high two aces.
The United States finished with 12 blocks – 10 more blocks than Puerto Rico.
Middle attacker Jason Amani led all players with a tournament-high five blocks. Amani also had back-to-back blocks midway through the opening game to cap off an 8-2 run.
Pin-hitter Lucas Sebastian Colon Lecompte in the loss led Puerto Rico with nine kills. Colon Lecompte, though, was the only Puerto Rico player to have more than two kills and hit more than zero.
