A long-time college volleyball coach will join the committee that determines the NCAA Tournament field.
Daemen coach Sean Byron was selected to serve on the five-person NCAA men’s volleyball committee.
The NCAA men’s volleyball committee is responsible for selecting the five at-large bids and seeding the 12-team field for the annual NCAA Tournament. It also oversees the championship event and annually adopts any rule changes.
Byron is entering his first year season as the Daemen head coach. The Western New York Boys’ and Men’s Volleyball Hall of Famer has more than 30 years of coaching experience, including helping lead both Springfield and Ohio State to NCAA championships as an assistant coach.
The committee since expanding from three to five members in 2020 has traditionally included two head coaches and three college athletics administrators.
Lewis coach Dan Friend will continue to serve as the other coach on the committee.
Byron replaces former Fairleigh Dickinson coach Karl France and will complete the final year of France’s four-year term. France stepped down from the committee this summer after departing Fairleigh Dickinson to become an assistant coach with the Oral Roberts women’s volleyball team.
This is the second season the NCAA Tournament will feature a 12-team field. The tournament will have four three-team regions with the region champions advancing to the NCAA Tournament semifinals in Las Vegas.
