A former UCLA player and assistant coach will now be overseeing one the newest MPSF programs.
Jessup announced recently that it hired Mark Knudsen to be its men’s volleyball head coach.
Knudsen as an outside attacker with the Bruins won the 1989 NCAA championship. In addition, Knudsen following his college career joined the UCLA coaching staff and helped the program win four national championships in six seasons.
Along with his college experience, Knudsen spent almost a decade as a high school boys’ volleyball coach at Valencia. Knudsen was named the area’s Boy Volleyball Coach of the Decade as his team won four southern California section championships and went undefeated in conference play for eight consecutive years.
“Mark brings an incredible depth of experience to our men’s volleyball program,” Jessup athletics director Scott Sorgea said in statement. “His background at UCLA as both a player and coach, combined with his success building championship teams at the high school and collegiate levels, gives him a unique perspective on what it takes to develop a nationally competitive program.”
Knudsen most recently served as the assistant coach at Moorpak College. He also has spent the last 10 years as a beach volleyball coach with the AVP.
Jessup in its inaugural season in the MPSF qualified for the conference tournament and lost to Pepperdine in the opening round.
