What to know: This is the opening match in MPSF conference play as the Trojans take to their home court for the second time this season. USC won its home opener over UC Santa Barbara in five games on Jan. 19. Grand Canyon is off to its best record in program history at 11-0, ranking No. 5 in both the coaches and media polls. The Lopes, one of just four remaining undefeated teams, are second in the nation with a .382 attack percentage. Emerging for the Lopes is outside attacker Jackson Hickman, who has replaced Camden Gianni. Hickman leads the team with 3.37 kills per game average. The Trojans had to replace five of the seven starters from last year’s team. The offense is led by UCLA graduate transfer Kevin Kobrine and freshman Dillon Klein, who leads the team averaging 3.55 kills per game. The Lopes and Trojans have four common opponents so far this year – Lindenwood, UC Irvine, UC San Diego and Ohio State. Both teams defeated Lindenwood and UC San Diego, albeit both of those Trojans’ victories were on a neutral site. Grand Canyon defeated UC Irvine in a pair of matches two weeks ago in Phoenix, while USC lost in five games at UC Irvine last month. Both teams played Ohio State on a neutral court – USC lost in four at Penn State, while Grand Canyon won in five at George Mason.
