What to know: A new era will begin for Pepperdine with a non-conference match against a program that has won four consecutive postseason titles. Former National Player of the Year and four-time All-American setter Jonathan Winder will make his debut as Pepperdine’s head coach with the team playing host to Lincoln Memorial. Winder returns to his alma matar and inherits a program that won the MPSF Tournament championship last season to make its third straight NCAA Tournament. Among the starters returning from that championship team includes All-American setter Bryce Dvorak. Dvorak finished last season fourth in the nation with a 10.80 assists per game average and guided the offense to the nation’s seventh-best attack percentage at .327. The setter in 2022 also was second in the MPSF averaging 0.47 aces per game. Along with Dvorak, pin-hitter Jaylen Jasper returns after ending last season in the top 10 of the MPSF with both a 3.57 kills per game average and a .315 attack percentage. This will be the first all-time meeting between the Waves and Railsplitters. Lincoln Memorial had two wins against nationally ranked teams last year and concluded the season winning the IVA championship for the fourth straight season. Setter Kohl Kutsch led Lincoln Memorial to a .294 attack percentage en route to being named the 2022 Independent Teams Player of the Year. Outside attacker Cole Campisano, a First-Team All-Independent Team selection, was among the national leaders both averaging 3.15 kills per game and hitting .325 last season.
