No. 2/2 BYU (11-2, 7-2 MPSF) vs. No. 15 Cal Baptist (8-8, 3-8 MPSF)

What to know: No. 2/2 BYU can move into a three-way tie for second place in the MPSF and a half-match out of first place it it beats No. 15 Cal Baptist to complete the two-match road series sweep. The Cougars had a season-high .500 attack percentage in the series-opening sweep against the Lancers on Friday. In addition, BYU committed a combined five attack errors in the final two games. This also was the third time in BYU’s last four matches that it finished with more than a .475 attack percentage. BYU had three players with double-digit kills versus Cal Baptist, including All-American opposite Ben Patch who had a match-high 17 kills. Patch, who did not play in the Cougars two non-conference matches last week, is among the national leaders with a 4.54 kills per game average. Cal Baptist despite the home loss finished with a .351 attack percentage and hit .429 in the final game. Outside attacker Luis Palos also had a team-high 11 kills and five blocks against BYU.

North Greenville (7-4, 5-3 CC) vs. Belmont Abbey (7-3, 4-3 CC)

What to know: Two teams that have made the biggest record improvements from last season will face each other as Belmont Abbey plays host to North Greenville in a critical Conference Carolinas match. North Greenville in the program’s second season is in fifth place and four wins away from surpassing its entire win total from 2015. In addition, Belmont Abbey is a half-match behind North Greenville in the conference standings and on pace for the program’s first winning season in program history. Outside attacker Nolan Albrecht leads the Conference Carolinas with a 4.63 kills per game average, including having a match-high 22 kills in Belmont Abbey’s five-game victory against Emmanuel on Thursday. This was the third time in the last four matches that Albrecht finished with more than 20 kills. North Greenville enters this road match having won three of its last four matches. Middle attackers Luuga Vailu’U and Matthew McManaway also are each in the conference’s top five with more than a .375 attack percentage.


No. 6/7 Ohio State (11-2, 6-1 MIVA) vs. Grand Canyon (9-5, 2-3 MIVA)

What to know: Grand Canyon one day after having no answer to stopping outside attacker Nicolas Szerszen will now play No. 6/7 Ohio State once again. The Off the Block/Springbak, Inc. Preseason All-American had a match-high 16 kills and zero attack errors on a .727 attack percentage as the Buckeyes swept the Antelopes in the series opener on Friday. This was the third time this season Szerszen finished a match with double-digit kills while hitting more than .725. Szerszen also enters this series finale second in the MIVA with a 4.68 kills per game average. Ohio State out-hit Grand Canyon .418 to. 200 in the series opener and held the Antelopes to a negative attack percentage in the third game. With this loss, Grand Canyon has now lost its last two conference matches to drop to sixth place in the MIVA.
