A middle attacker has garnered his first college men’s volleyball award of the season after helping Lincoln Memorial get its third home victory against an independent team.
Off the Block announced Monday that Pedro Carvalho was selected as the Off the Block Independent Teams Player of the Week.
Carvalho led all players with both eight blocks and a season-high four aces as Lincoln Memorial swept Queens on Saturday. In addition, the Brazilian native added six kills and zero attack errors while hitting .750 in the victory.
With the win, Lincoln Memorial improved to 3-0 against NCAA Division I-II independent teams.
Carvalho is the second Lincoln Memorial player to be named the Independent Teams Player of the Week. Opposite Evan Cory also won the award following a four-game victory against Coker in February.
The Independent Teams Player of the Week recognizes the best player during the week from NCAA Division I-II men’s volleyball teams that are competing without a conference affiliation. The four independent teams this season are Alderson Broaddus, Coker, Lincoln Memorial and Queens.
Off the Block determines the Independent Teams Player of the Week based on a variety of factors, including a player’s individual performance and how a player’s team fared during the week.
The winner of the Independent Teams Player of the Week is unveiled every Monday during the regular season on the Off the Block website, offtheblockblog.com.
