  • Conference tournament quarterfinal matches to follow tonight

    The MIVA Tournament continues with two nationally ranked teams trying to get home wins to advance to the semifinals.

    Lewis with its NCAA Tournament at-large bid hopes on the line will play host to Grand Canyon in the conference tournament quarterfinals. In addition, Ball State will try to reach the MIVA Tournament semifinals for the third consecutive season as it plays Lindenwood.

  • Bracketology: Who teams should root for in conference tournaments

    The decision of what teams earn the two at-large bids to the NCAA Tournament could be greatly influenced by conference tournament matches not involving those teams or even their conference.

    Of the all the pieces of criteria used by the NCAA Tournament selection committee the one with greatest fluidity is record against teams already qualified for the NCAA Tournament or under consideration for an at-large bid.

  • MIVA announces 2014 Player of Year, all-conference teams

    For the second straight year, a player from Loyola is earning the MIVA Player of the Year — it just wasn’t the person everyone projected at the start of the season.

    The MIVA announced on Wednesday that Loyola outside attacker Thomas Jaeschke was selected as the 2014 MIVA Player of the Year.

    Stanford was able to close the gap a little bit more but Loyola will remain at No. 1 entering the postseason in the college men’s volleyball national media poll.

    Loyola received all but one first-place vote to beat-out No. 2 Stanford by 11 points and to finish the regular season atop the latest Volleyball Magazine media poll released Tuesday. (more…)

    The Conference Carolinas will have its championship match on Wednesday, while MIVA and MPSF will have their conference tournaments quarterfinals starting Thursday.   • Top 5 college men’s volleyball matches to follow tonight

    It’s the final day of the regular season and there is still plenty on the line.

    No. 9 UCLA and No. 10 Hawai’i will both play in must-win matches as they try to clinch the final berth in the MPSF Tournament. In addition, three teams still have a shot at the No. 5 seed for the upcoming MPSF Tournament.

  • Top 5 college men’s volleyball matches to follow tonight

    Multiple conference titles can be clinched tonight.

    No. 2 BYU will go for its second consecutive MPSF regular season title as it plays host to conference rival No. 9 UCLA. In addition out in the Midwest, No. 1 Loyola will look to remain undefeated in the MIVA and win its first conference regular season title in about 10 years as it takes on IPFW.
