  • Conference Carolinas announces 2012 All-Conference awards

    Pfeiffer after winning its first conference regular seson championship in program history received two of the biggest individual honors from the Conference Carolinas.

    Steve Bintz was named Coach of the Year and outside attacker Quentin Moore earned Co-Player of the Year honors with Limestone outside attacker Scott Warren as the Conference Carolinas revealed its all-conference awards Friday.

  • Top 5 men’s volleyball matches to follow tonight

    It’s the final weekend of the regular season, and with that may finally come clarity to the conference tournament brackets.

    No. 8 Ohio State will play IPFW in its conference season finale with a chance to win the MIVA regular season championship. In addition, No. 4 BYU and No. 7 Penn State will open a two-match non-conference series with signficant NCAA Tournament implications.

  • VIDEO: Ferguson breaks down upcoming matches, USC’s chances at MPSF title

    The Trojans enters the final week of the regular season with two remaining conference matches and a chance to win the MPSF regular season championship.

    No. 1 USC closes its regular season on the road with matches against No. 10 Long Beach State at 7 p.m. Thursday and Cal State Northridge at 7 p.m. Saturday. The Trojans can win a share of the MPSF regular season title if they win one of these matches and will win the conference out-right and get the No. 1 seed for the MPSF Tournament if they win both matches.

  • My men’s volleyball media poll ballot

    [Editor’s note: In an earlier version of this post, UCLA setter Kyle Caldwell was cited as still suffering from an achilles tendon injury. UCLA coach Al Scates informed Off the Block on Wednesday that Caldwell’s injury is full healed. The story has been updated to reflect this changes.]

    Servegate bumped BYU up in the national rankings.

    BYU after winning the replay of a fifth game overtime against UCLA during the weekend moved up one spot to No. 3 in the new national media poll released Tuesday.

  • VIDEO: NYU senior Hayes battles homophobia in sports

    NYU libero Jay Hayes released his three-minute short flim for the It Gets Better Project online Monday.

    The It Gets Better Project was founded in 2010 and has LGBTQ individuals produce videos focusing on overcoming homophobia in schools and workplaces. Hayes in conjunction with the NYU Athletics Department wrote, produced and directed his video about acceptance for gays in sports.

  • Deeper look at men’s volleyball NCAA Tournament selection criteria

    UCLA could still win the MPSF regular season title, but a deeper look into the NCAA Tournament selection committee shows that a regular season title may not be enough for the Bruins to get the at-large bid.

    With one week remaining in the regular season, the race for the lone at-large bid and seeding for the NCAA Tournament remains tight among the nation’s top teams. In addition, UCLA is one of five teams that still has a chance to win the MPSF regular season title.

  • VIDEO: Stanford survives late rally from Northridge, wins in 5 games

    Outside attacker Brian Cook had a match-high 23 kills and the game-winning block in the fifth-game overtime as No. 5 Stanford defeated Cal State Northridge 25-19, 25-21, 22-25, 22-25, 19-17 on Saturday in Palo Alto, Calif.

    With this victory, Stanford remains tied for fourth place in the MPSF and trails first-place No. 1 USC by one match. Check out the video highlights from game five of the Stanford and Cal State Northridge match.
