  • Defending champs U.S. sweep Nicaragua in NORCECA opener

    Brenden Sander after watching his older brother win the FIVB World League most valuable player made the most of his own international debut.

    The BYU incoming freshman recruit had a match-high six kills and two aces as the U.S. Men’s Junior National Team swept Nicaragua 25-12, 25-13, 25-20 on Tuesday in El Salvador to open the NORCECA U21 Continental Championship.

  • Mount Olive signs two top international recruits for 2015 season

    Members from the Belgian Junior National Team and England Junior National Team will be among the incoming recruits joining Mount Olive for the upcoming season.

    Mount Olive coach David Heller announced Monday that recent high school graduates Hollevoet and Robert Poole, Bret Rutledge, Peyton Schirman, Jeff Yasalonis and Victor Zamudio all committed to play for Mount Olive starting in the 2015 season.

  • Q&A with Ball State coach Walton on recruiting, growing his program

    It’s not as big of a challenge any more for coach Joel Walton to recruit players to Ball State.

    Walton said interview with Off the Block earlier this week that the university building a new training facility for the team and awarding additional men’s volleyball scholarships has significantly improved Ball State’s latest recruiting classes.

  • Harvard, UCLA pair eliminated in second round of Beach World Championships

    The championship hopes will end short of the medal podium for the U.S. pair of Harvard outside attacker Branden Clemens and UCLA outside attacker Jackson Bantle.

    Clemens and Bantle lost to the Norway’s Christian Sandlie Sorum and Hendrik Nikolai Mol H 21-13, 21-15 in the second round of the FIVB Beach U-21 World Championships on Saturday in Larnaka, Cyprus, to be eliminated from the international tournament.

  • Ball State coach excited to have new sports facility named after Shondell

    The name on the new practice facility at Ball State is just as significant as the sports venue itself for the coaches and players.

    Ball State coach Joel Walton said in an interview with Off the Block earlier this week that he is excited about the school opting to name the new facility in honor of the program’s inaugural coach and Volleyball Hall of Famer Don Shondell.

  • Princeton signs three standout high school recruits

    Three incoming freshmen recruits who won multiple championship while in high school will join Princeton for the upcoming season.

    Princeton announced Friday that recent high school graduates Billy Andrew, Mike Fuerst and Kendall Ratter committed to join the Tigers beginning in the 2015 season.

  • BYU, Ball State schedule two-match series for 2015 season

    For the first time in a decade, Ball State and BYU will play a non-conference match against each other.

    Ball State coach Joel Walton said in an interview with Off the Block on Wednesday that the Cardinals and Cougars have agreed to play a two-match series during the 2015 season in Provo, Utah.

  • U.S. reveals final roster for World Championship qualification tournament

    The U.S. roster is set for the tournament that will determine if the country qualifies for the 2015 FIVB Men’s Junior World Championship.

    USA Volleyball announced its 12-player roster that includes two Off the Block/Springbak, Inc. Freshman All-American Team selections for the upcoming NORCECA Men’s U-21 Continental Championship.

  • Off the Block to release first NCAA rally scoring era record book

    The question of what college men’s volleyball player had the best single-season and career statistically during the rally scoring era will finally be answered.

    In an effort to preserve the sport’s history, Off the Block starting next week will release the nation’s first compiled rally scoring era record book for NCAA Division I-II men’s volleyball.

  • Harvard signs multiple top 50 recruits for upcoming season

    A high school All-American and multiple Volleyball Magazine Fab 50 selections highlights Harvard’s newest recruiting class.

    Harvard announced on Tuesday that recent high school graduates Brad Gretsch, Marko Kostich, Jack Heavey and Riley Moore have all committed to play for the Crimson beginning next season.
