The wait won’t long for Newberry to play its biggest home match of the season.
Newberry as part of releasing its 2027 schedule announced it will play the defending ConfCarolinas champions Belmont Abbey in its home opener on Feb. 9.
This will be the first time the second-year program from South Carolina will play Belmont Abbey.
Newberry with a roster primarily comprised of freshmen ended its inaugural season at 6-16, including going 0-9 against ConfCarolinas teams. All-IVA opposite Lucas Nieves also had a team-high 2.79 kills per game average highlighted with a season-high 22 kills in a five-game loss to King.
Belmont Abbey finished last season winning its third consecutive ConfCarolinas championship and earned a berth to the NCAA Tournament. Among the starters slated to return for the Crusaders includes All-ConfCarolinas setter Joseph Morris who led the Crusaders in 2026 to a conference-best .287 attack percentage.
The home opener for Newberry will conclude a home-and-home series against Belmont Abbey. The Crusaders will play host to the Wolves to begin the series on Feb. 2.
This series will be the first of Newberry’s five matches against ConfCarolinas teams during the upcoming season.
