Georgia is on the mind of CSUN for the upcoming season.
CSUN as part of recently unveiling its 2027 schedule announced that it will travel to Fort Valley State in Georgia for a three-match non-conference tournament in February.
This will be the first time in their program history the Matadors will play a match in the Southeast The three-day tournament will feature matches against the defending SIAC champions and host school Fort Valley State, Fairleigh Dickinson, and Queens.
CSUN finished last season at No. 18 in the national coaches poll and went 12-4 in non-conference play, including a sweep against Fort Valley State. Among the starters returning for the Matadors includes setter Owen Douphner who during the offseason helped the United States win a gold medal at the U23 Pan American Cup.
Fort Valley State has made three consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances as the SIAC champion. The Wildcats under coach Larry Wrather also are on a nation-best 34-match conference winning streak dating back to 2024.
This tournament opener will be Fort Valley State’s first home match against a West Coast team since playing host to UCLA in 2022.
The Matadors will make two East Coast road trips during the upcoming season. Along with the matches at Fort Valley State, the team will travel to play Princeton and Harvard in March.
