Outside attacker Jacob Pasteur ensured there would be no possibility of an upset.
Pasteur finished with both a match-high 11 kills on .471 attack percentage and two aces as the United States swept Guatemala 25-19, 25-13, 25-16 at the NORCECA Final Six on Monday in Puerto Rico.
The former Ohio State All-American led all players with six kills in the final game to help secure the pool-play victory. In addition, Pasteur had two kills, a block and an ace as part of a 13-4 runto open the second game.
Former Ohio State setter Michael Wright guided the offense to out-hit Puerto Rico .408 to .044, including the United States having a match-best .650 attack percentage and one error in the second game.
Pasteur was one of four U.S. players with more than five kills against Guatemala.
Former Ball State outside attacker Patrick Rogers had 10 kills and hit .444 to help the United States stay undefeated in pool-play. Former CSUN opposite Kyle Hobus added nine kills, while former UCLA middle attacker Cameron Thorne had eight kills and one error on a match-best .636 attack percentage.
The United States limited Guatemala to a zero attack percentage in the opening game and finished the match with 11 blocks – seven more blocks than Guatemala.
Both Pasteur and USC middle attacker Parker Tomkinson led all players with three blocks.
Middle attacker Jason Omar Hernández de León in the loss led Guatemala with five kills and zero errors on a team-best .625 attack percentage. The middle attacker, though, was the only Guatemala to have more than three kills and hit more than .150.
