Outside attacker Patrick Rogers following the postmatch handshakes looked towards the crowd and let out a visceral scream.
The scream would have been heard throughout the Riverview Health Arena if not for the crowd of 1,252 people that was also screaming and cheering at a high-pitched decibel.
The pouring out of emotion was evident throughout the arena given what Rogers had just done from the service line in the NCAA Tournament regional finals.

Ball State with this win will advance to the semifinals and play the winner of the quarterfinals match between the No. 1 seed UCLA and UC Irvine.
This is the first time Ball State has won a NCAA Tournament match since between Hawai’i in the now defunct third-place match in 1995. It is also the first time Ball State has defeated a West Coast team in a non-consolation NCAA Tournament match since beating UC Santa Barbara during the inaugural NCAA Tournament in 1970.
Pepperdine is the first West Coast team to lose to a non-West Coast team in the NCAA Tournament since 2019.
