The top MIVA setters from the last 25 years have been selected for a new conference honor.
Off the Block announced Monday the 25 setter finalists for the MIVA Quarter-Century Team.
The MIVA Quarter-Century Team recognizes the top players who competed in the conference at any point between the 2001 and 2025 seasons. The finalists from each position will be unveiled this week and then the 25-player MIVA Quarter-Century Team will be announced later this fall.
Off the Block selected the finalists for the MIVA Quarter-Century Team using a variety of metrics including career and season statistics, conference and national honors and a team’s overall achievements with the player on the court.
The MIVA is the oldest conference in college men’s volleyball and is one of seven leagues in the nation that receives an automatic berth to the Division I-II NCAA Tournament. The conference also in the last 25 years has won six NCAA championships.
Off the Block is a national award winning website that launched in 2011 and is the nation’s leader in college men’s volleyball coverage.
MIVA Quarter-Century Team finalists (setters)
Quinn Isaacson, Ball State (2018-22)
National accolades: 2022 Lloy Ball Award; 2022 First-Team All-American;
Conference accolades: 2021 First-Team All-MIVA; 2022 First-Team All-MIVA; 2020 Second-Team All-MIVA
Player bio: Isaacson finished seventh all-time in school history with 2,606 career assists and was in the top 20 in program history with a 0.23 aces per game average. The setter in 2022 also was second in the nation with a 11.24 assists per game average and guided the Cardinals to the nation’s fourth-best attack percentage at .346 as Ball State won the MIVA championship and advanced to the NCAA Tournament semifinals.
Graham McIlvaine, Ball State (2011-14)
Conference accolades: 2014 Second-Team All-MIVA
Player bio: McIlvaine finished sixth all-time in school history with 3,081 career assists. In addition, McIlvaine had more than 100 digs in all four seasons and had a career-high 78 blocks during as a senior.
Ethan Pheister, Ball State (2007-10)
Conference accolades: 2008 Second-Team All-MIVA; 2009 Second-Team All-MIVA; 2010 Second-Team All-MIVA
Player bio: Pheister remains fourth in Ball State program history with 4,103 career assists and helped lead the Cardinals to back-to-back MIVA Tournament finals appearances. In addition, Pheister was the first player at Ball State in the rally scoring era to surpass 100 career aces.
Keith Schunzel, Ball State (2001-04)

Player bio: Schunzel continues to hold the Ball State rally scoring era record and third all-time in program history with 5,558 career assists. The setter also guided the Cardinals to a .341 attack percentage in 2002 as Ball State won the MIVA championship and reached the NCAA Tournament semifinals.
BJ Boldog, Lewis (2010-14)
National accolades: 2014 First-Team All-American; 2012 Second-Team All-American; 2013 Second-Team All-American
Conference accolades: 2012 First-Team All-MIVA; 2013 First-Team All-MIVA; 2014 First-Team All-MIVA; 2011 Second-Team All-MIVA
Player bio: Boldog set the program’s rally scoring era record with 4,385 career assists in his four seasons as the team’s starting setter. In his senior season, Boldog guided the offense to the nation’s third-best attack percentage at .328 as the Flyers became the second non-West Coast team in college men’s volleyball history to earn an at-large berth to the NCAA Tournament. He also led Lewis to a national top five attack percentage at .321 in 2012 and helped the team win its first MIVA championship in almost a decade. Along with his offensive performance, Boldog finished ninth in program history with 338 career blocks.
Scott Fifer, Lewis (2013-16)
Conference accolades: 2015 Second-Team All-MIVA; 2016 Second-Team All-MIVA;
Player bio: Fifer in 2015 guided the offense to the nation’s third-best attack percentage at .338 as the Flyers advanced to the NCAA Tournament finals. Lewis the following season with Fifer at setter was seventh in the nation with a .306 attack percentage. Fifer also had back-to-back seasons with more than both 100 digs and 75 blocks.
Mike Iandolo, Lewis (2007-10)
Conference accolades: 2009 First-Team All-MIVA; 2010 First-Team All-MIVA; 2008 Second-Team All-MIVA
Player bio: Iandolo finished fourth in program history with 3,389 career assists and had more than 1,000 assists in each of his final three seasons. The setter as a junior helped guide the offense to a MIVA-best .293 attack percentage.
Kevin Kauling, Lewis (2020-23)

Player bio: Kauling finished seventh in program history with 2,321 career assists and third in program history with 145 career aces. The setter in 2021 also was second in the nation with a 10.84 assists per game average and guided the offense to nation’s third-best attack percentage at .340 as the Flyers reached the NCAA Tournament semifinals.
Matt Yoshimoto, Lewis (2016-19)

Player bio: Yoshimoto is fifth in program history with 3,293 career assists and guided the Flyers to finish in the nation’s top 10 for attack percentage in three consecutive seasons. The setter also had 146 career aces to set the school’s rally scoring era record, including having a nation-best 67 aces during his senior season.
Adam Brewster, Lindenwood (2016-19)

Player bio: Brewster is second in school history during the NCAA era with 2,886 career assists. The setter also had third consecutive seasons with more than 100 digs.
Connor Sheehan, Lindenwood (2021-24)

Player bio: Sheehan finished with a nation-best 11.14 assists per game average in 2024 as Lindenwood reached the MIVA Tournament finals for the first time in program history. The setter also holds the program record during the NCAA era with 2,905 career assists.
Shane Davis, Loyola (2000-04)

Player bio: Davis continues to hold the Loyola program record with 5,337 career assists and guided the Ramblers offense to more than .300 attack percentage in all four seasons as a starter. The setter also is fourth all-time in program history with 723 career digs and accumulated more than 250 career blocks.
Brian Guntli, Loyola (2004-07)

Player bio: Guntli is second in school history with 5,231 career assists and guided the Loyola offense to more than a .300 attack percentage in all four seasons as the team’s setter. The setter also is in the program’s top 10 with 598 career digs.
Mike Hutz, Loyola (2008-11)

Player bio: Hutz is third all-time in school history with 4,601 career assists and guided the offense to more than a .300 attack percentage in back-to-back seasons. The setter also is in the top 10 in school history with both 651 career digs and more than 1,000 career assists.
Peter Hutz, Loyola (2013-16)
National accolades: 2015 Lloy Ball Award finalist; 2015 Second-Team All-American; 2016 All-American Honorable Mention

Player bio: Hutz guided Loyola to the nation’s best attack percentage in back-to-back seasons en route to winning back-to-back national championships. Hunt in 2014 was third in the country with an 11.42 assists per game average as he guided the Ramblers offense to a .366 attack percentage, including the team hitting .452 in its NCAA Tournament finals victory. The Ramblers also hit .350 and Hutz averaged 11.26 assists per game during the team’s 2015 championship season. Along with his offensive performance, Hutz had more than 600 career digs and 200 career blocks.
Dan Mangun, Loyola (2022-24)
National accolades: 2023 All-American Honorable Mention
Conference accolades: 2023 First-Team All-MIVA; 2024 Second-Team All-MIVA
Player bio: Mangun helped guide the Loyola offense to finish back-to-back seasons in the nation’s top 10 for attack percentage. The setter also was fourth in the nation with a 10.32 assists per game average in 2023.
Garrett Zolg, Loyola (2018-22)

Player bio: Zolg is sixth all-time in school history with 3,928 career assists and three times guided the Loyola offense to a top 10 attack percentage in the nation. Nate Flayter, McKendree (2024-present)

Player bio: Flayter in 2025 had a 9.98 assists per game average and guided the offense to a .288 attack percentage as McKendree won its first MIVA regular season championship. The setter defensively was in the nation’s top 15 with a 2.32 digs per game average and had double-digit digs in 13 matches.
Ryan Serrano, McKendree (2018-22)

Player bio: Serrano is second all-time in school history with 2,784 career and is the only McKendree player to accumulate more than 500 career digs and 200 career blocks. In addition, Serrano twice helped the Bearcats reach the MIVA Tournament semifinals.

Player bio: Blough is fifth in program history with 4,280 career assists and helped lead the Buckeyes to back-to-back NCAA championships. The setter also guided the Ohio State offense to finish each of those seasons second in the nation with at least a .350 attack percentage.

Player bio: Kehoe finished his senior season leading the MIVA and fourth in the nation with an 11.56 assists per game average. The setter also guided the offense to the fourth best attack percentage in the nation at .343 en route to the Buckeyes winning their third consecutive conference title and first NCAA championship in program history. Kehoe in the NCAA Tournament finals led Ohio State to a .329 attack percentage, including hitting .714 in the decisive fifth game, as it defeated UC Santa Barbara. In addition, Kehoe the previous season guided the Buckeyes to a .300 attack percentage and a NCAA Tournament semifinals appearance.
Daniel Mathews, Ohio State (2005-08)
