The blocking game stepped up for Edward Waters to help deliver a critical conference win.
Edward Waters had a season-high 12 blocks as it defeated Central State 25-23, 26-28, 28-26, 18-25, 15-8 on Friday in Wilberforce, Ohio.
Middle attackers Bryce Simmon and Jackson Mandell each led the Tigers with five blocks. Both players also had blocks as part of a 9-3 run to open the decisive fifth game.
Pin-hitter Richard Hendricks finished with a team-high 8 kills in a matchup between two of the three undefeated teams in SIAC play.
Despite the loss, Central State out-hit Edward Waters .221 to .183.
Central State outside attacker Jaedyn Harris ended with a match-high 19 kills on a .412 attack percentage. In addition, middle attacker Simon Falayi had 15 kills and hit a match-best .684.
Middle attacker Alain Tamo-Noche defensively led all players with nine blocks against Edward Waters.
