
The offense was flawless in the decisive game for No. 14 UC San Diego to knock off a top-10 nationally ranked team for the first time this season.
Setter Bryce Dvorak guided the offense to zero errors and a match-best .647 attack percentage in the fifth game as UC San Diego defeated No. 8/9 Stanford 24-26, 25-22, 22-25, 25-22, 15-11 on Saturday.
UC San Diego en route to securing the non-conference road win out-hit Stanford for the match .339 to .254. The Tritons also committed a combined five errors in the final three games – seven fewer errors than the Cardinal.
Pin-hitter Anthony Cherfan led UC San Diego with 18 kills on a .326 attack percentage, including having a game-high five kills in the fifth game. Outside attacker Josh Schellinger contributed 15 kills, while middle attackers Nick Rigo and Peter Selcho each had seven kills and hit more than .450.
Rigo defensively added a match-high eight blocks with three blocks coming in the second game.
Stanford pin-hitter Theo Snoey in the loss finished with a match-high 22 kills on a .357 attack percentage.
This victory is UC San Diego’s third all-time win against Stanford in program history.
