Van Buren spearheads undefeated No. 7/7 Loyola past No. 14 Ohio State

The dominant offensive run from opposite Parker Van Buren keeps rolling through the MIVA.

Van Buren finished with a team-high 20 kills on a .576 attack percentage as No. 7/7 Loyola defeated No. 14 Ohio State 21-25, 25-20, 27-25, 25-21 on Saturday in Columbus, Ohio.

Van Buren did not commit an attack error in the first two games and ended the match with one error. In addition, the senior following the opening-game loss had eight kills in the second game to jumpstart the comeback win and help keep the Ramblers undefeated.

This was the fourth time in the last five matches that Van Buren had double-digit kills and hit more than .450. The senior also had 18 kills and one error on a .548 attack percentage in a sweep against McKendree on Thursday to open the conference season.

Loyola out-hit Ohio State .390 to .313 and had more than .400 attack percentage in three of the four games.

Van Buren was one of three Ramblers with double-digit kills. Outside attacker Aidan Klein contributed 11 kills and hit .348, while outside attacker Daniel Fabikovic had 12 kills on a .370 attack percentage

Fabikovic also had a kill in the third-game overtime and then on the next play delivered the game-winning block.

Fabikovic led all players with a season-high seven blocks. Loyola finished the match with 11 blocks – seven more blocks than Ohio State.

Ohio State opposite Shane Wetzel in the loss had a match-high 23 kills. Freshman outside attacker Stanislaw Chacinski also had 15 kills on a .429 attack percentage.

The Buckeyes have now lost their last three matches – all against top-10 nationally ranked teams.
