What to know: There isn’t much that could top the last time Shane Davis coached against Lewis. Davis finished that match 10 years ago hoisting the championship trophy as Loyola defeated Lewis in a fifth-game overtime to repeat as NCAA champions. This regular season meeting with Davis now back at Loyola doesn’t have as much at stake as the MIVAgeddon but there is still plenty on the line. No. 7/6 Loyola enters this rivalry match tied for first place in the MIVA and has a one-match lead on third-place No. 15 Lewis. Opposite Parker Van Buren leads the conference and is third in the nation with a 4.29 kills per game average. The senior has at least 20 kills in three of the last five matches highlighted with a season-high 27 kills against McKendree. Van Buren also has hit more than .500 in three MIVA matches and is in the nation’s top 15 with a career-high .412 attack percentage. Both Lewis pin-hitters Oguzhan Oguz and Max Roquet are in the nation’s top 30 averaging more than 3.50 kills per game. In addition, Roquet earlier this season set a single-match program record with 33 kills in a victory against Mount Olive. The Flyers are on a three-match winning streak and won all three of those matches in five games.
No. 11 Ball State (10-5, 3-2 MIVA) vs. No. 16 Ohio State (6-7, 3-2 MIVA)
Match vitals: 7 p.m. in Muncie, Indiana

What to know: The pin-hitters next to outside attacker Parker Rogers have significantly changed in recent weeks. That hasn’t stopped Rogers from putting up big offensive numbers as No. 11 Ball State prepares to play host to its long-time rival No. 16 Ohio State. Rogers has double-digit kills in all five conference matches this season, including a season-high 19 kills in a five-game victory against Purdue Fort Wayne earlier this month. Ball State has been without both All-MIVA pin-hitters Tinaishe Ndavazocheva and Raje Alleyne for the last two matches because of injuries. Rogers in those two matches had a combined 25 kills and hit .444 in a sweep against Lindenwood. In addition, Rogers defensively had a season-high 15 digs in a road loss to McKendree on Saturday. Ball State coach Donan Cruz told Off the Block on Thursday that both Ndavazocheva and Alleyne will be match-time decisions on whether they can play against Ohio State. Opposite Shane Wetzel leads Ohio State and is in the nation’s top 20 with a 3.75 kills per game average. Wetzel also has double-digit kills in eight consecutive matches and had a season-high 23 kills in a road loss to McKendree last week. Along with the offensive performance, both Wetzel and freshman outside attacker Stanislaw Chacinski are in the nation’s top 25 averaging more than 0.47 aces per game.
