The rumble has been felt in the MIVA.

A voting committee of conference coaches selected Purdue Fort Wayne as the winner of the 2024 Off the Block MIVA Student Section of the Year.

No. 19 Purdue Fort Wayne went 11-4 at home this season en route to earning the No. 5 seed for the upcoming MIVA Tournament. Among the team’s top home performances included a five-game upset victory against No. 8/6 Penn State in front of a home crowd of 987 people.

“The student body and student athletes, including our pep band, have been tremendous supporters of our program all season long,” Purdue Fort Wayne coach Rock Perrotte said. “They bring relentless energy, passion and spirit at every home match. They give our team that extra bit necessary to hold home court and why we went 11-4 at home this season. Their influence on our players does not go overlooked.”

This is the inaugural season of the MIVA Student Section of the Year. In addition, the MIVA is the only conference in college men’s volleyball with an award that recognizes the fans.

Purdue Fort Wayne received the majority of first-place votes from the MIVA coaches for this award. Ball State, Ohio State and Loyola each also received first-place votes.

Off the Block for this new award collaborated with the MIVA and coordinated the voting. Off the Block is a national award winning website that launched in 2011 and is the nation’s leader in college men’s volleyball coverage.
