What to know: The oldest college men’s volleyball rivalry in the Midwest will be renewed tonight with first place in the MIVA on the line. No. 13 Ball State enters this road match following a bye week atop the conference standings but can be surpassed by No. 8/6 Ohio State if the Buckeyes win. This match-up will feature two of the top pin-hitter combinations in the nation. Ball State outside attacker Patrick Rogers is ninth in the nation with a 3.79 kills per game average. Rogers has double-digit kills in all but one conference match this season, including a season-high 22 kills on a .515 attack percentage in a sweep against Purdue Fort Wayne. In addition, outside attacker Tinaishe Ndavazocheva has double-digit kills and more than a .400 attack percentage in three of the last five matches. Ndavazocheva, a Preseason All-American, returned to the court for the Cardinals in late January after missing the first nine matches of the season. The Buckeyes have two players among the national leaders in kills. Outside attacker Jacob Pasteur is in the nation’s top 10 with a 3.78 kills per game average. Paseteur also is second in the nation averaging 0.68 aces per game and had a combined 13 aces in Ohio State’s last two conference matches. Opposite Shane Wetzel is in the conference’s top 15 with a 3.03 kills per game average, including having a season-high 24 kills against No. 12 Loyola earlier this month. Wetzel as a freshman last season also had 16 kills and a .333 attack percentage as Ohio State beat Ball State in the MIVA Tournament finals. This will be the first meeting between the Buckeyes and Cardinals since that postseason meeting.
