The Pioneers will be going farther than ever before in program history – literally.

Sacred Heart as part of revealing its 2024 regular season it will travel almost 5,000 miles for a two-match non-conference series against the defending Big West champions Hawai’i in March.

This will be the first all-time meeting between the Rainbow Warriors and Pioneers. It also will be the first time the Connecticut school will travel beyond the East Coast and Midwest since 2017.

Sacred Heart under new head coach Adam Niemczynowicz finished last season in fourth place in the NEC and advanced to the conference tournament semifinals. All-NEC outside attacker Patrick Mucherino returns for the Pioneers after being fourth in the conference with a 3.32 kills per game average in 2023.

Hawai’i lost to UCLA in the NCAA Tournament finals last season to come up short in its attempt at becoming the first program in almost 30 years to win three consecutive NCAA championships.

The Rainbow Warriors will have to replace multiple All-American starters from last year’s team but returns First-Team All-American middle attacker Guilherme Voss. The team also in the offseason added former All-American setter Kevin Kauling who transferred from Lewis.

Sacred Heart will play two non-conference opponents that ended last season ranked in the national coaches poll. Along with the series at Hawai’i, Sacred Heart will play a road match against Princeton on Feb. 10.
