UC San Diego adds MVP of junior college league for 2024 season

An outside attacker who had more than 20 kills in a junior college championship match will join UC San Diego.

Sebastian Lara announced via social media that they will transfer from Orange Coast College to UC San Diego for the upcoming season.

Lara, a 6-foot-4 pin-hitter from California, finished the last season with a 3.83 kills per game average and was named the Co-Most Valuable Player of the Orange Empire Conference. The sophomore also had a match-high 23 kills on a .370 attack percentage as Orange Coast upset Long Beach City in five games to win the California Community College Athletic Association state championship in April.

Along with the offensive performance, Lara in 2023 averaged both 0.44 aces per game and 1.02 digs per game.

UC San Diego under first-year head coach Brad Rostratter ended last season in fifth place in the Big West. In addition, the Tritons had a conference-best four players named ot the Big West All-Freshman Team.
