No. 7/4 Ball State (19-2, 11-1 MIVA) vs. No. 11/10 Loyola (16-7, 10-2 MIVA)

What to know: The top two teams in the MIVA meet in Chicago on Thursday evening with the regular season crown on the line. Ball State and Loyola have separated themselves from the rest of the pack in the conference and the Ramblers have a chance to sweep the regular season series from the Cardinals. Meanwhile, a Ball State win will earn them the regular season crown for the first time since 2002. For the Ramblers, they are led by setter Garrett Zolg who is averaging nearly ten assists per game. He also leads the team in total aces, firing 26 on the season. Cole Schlothauer and Parker Van Buren, the dynamic duo on the pins, have been the recipients of many of those sets this season. Van Buren has become a breakout star of the season, averaging 4.52 kills per game and attacking at a .360 efficiency. I’m addition, Schlothauer is averaging over three kills per game, and for the last two seasons, the Ramblers have been a completely different team when he has on the court. On the opposite side of the net, Ball State is hoping to avenge their only MIVA loss of the season when they dropped a four-game decision to Loyola to in February. The Cardinals have been one of the season’s biggest surprises, led by first-year head coach Donan Cruz. Setter Quinn Isaacson has emerged as a favorite for the Lloy Ball Award, setting the squad to a .355 efficiency. In addition, he is a threat at the service line, leading the team with 30 aces. The Cardinals also feature a terrific twosome on the pins in Caleb Jenness and Angelos Mandilaris. Jenness has emerged as a contender for the Karch Kiraly Award, averaging 4.65 kills per game while hitting at a .384 clip. Mandilaris, a transfer from Barton, is averaging 4.34 kills per game and nearly two digs per game.
