What to know: It’s rivalry week in the greater Los Angeles area as No. 1/2 UCLA and No. 5/6 USC, the top 2 teams in the MPSF, renew one of the most bitter rivalries in all of college sports. The two teams bring contrasting styles to the court, as the Bruins have been strong in the middle all season long, while the Trojans have relied heavily on their pin hitters. In addition, the Bruins will bring their distinctive tough serving to the court against the Trojans who feature one of the top passing trios in the country. Merrick McHenry and Guy Genis have been nearly unstoppable through the middle this season, attacking at a .542 and .540 efficiency respectively. In his first season as the full time setter, Miles Partain has led the Bruins to a .372 hitting efficiency on the season. On the other side of the net, the Trojans are led on the pins by Sam Kobrine and Simon Gallas. Sam Kobrine, the All-American setter from UCLA, has found a new home at USC in the outside hitter position and has thrived, averaging over 3.5 kills per game. His brother Kevin is an opposite attacker for the Bruins and this will be their first matchup across the net from each other. Gallas has been one of the breakout stars of the season, averaging 4.35 kills per game.
