Benedict sweeps Morehouse to earn first win in program history

Benedict achieved a program milestone thanks to opposite Donovan Wilmott.

Wilmott led all players with a season-high 12 kills on a .563 attack percentage as Benedict swept Morehouse 25-13, 25-19, 25-18 for its first win in program history on Friday in Columbia, South Carolina.

Both Benedict (1-5, 1-1 SIAC) and Morehouse (0-3, 0-1 SIAC) are among the six first-year programs from the SIAC. Benedict entered this conference match on a five-match losing streak to open the season, while Morehouse had lost its first two matches.

Wilmott was one of four Benedict players with more than five kills against Morehouse.

Freshman middle attacker De’Andrae Taylor finished with eight kills on a .583 attack percentage. Outside attacker Ras Jesse Delancy also had seven kills and outside attacker Benjamin Attles contributed six kills.

Benedict out-hit Morehouse .226 to negative-.102, including limiting Morehouse to a negative-.318 attack percentage in a 12-point opening game win.

Libero Clint Forbes in the victory led all players defensively with 11 digs.

Morehouse did not have a player finish with more than three kills against Benedict.
