What to know: No. 6 BYU will get another chance to try to pass the serving of No. 5 Penn State. The two teams will conclude their two-match non-conference series after the Nittany Lions had nine aces in a sweep to open the series on Thursday. Preseason All-American opposite Cal Fisher had two aces and was one of three Nittany Lions with multiple aces in the victory. Fisher finished last season second in the nation with a 0.75 aces per game average and was named the National Server of the Year. Along with Fisher, Preseason All-American Brett Wildman had two aces and outside attacker Michal Kowal led all players with three aces against BYU. Penn State out-hit BYU .365 to .130, including hitting a match-best .500 attack percentage in the first game. Preseason All-American outside attacker Davide Gardini in the loss had a team-high nine kills but was limited to a .188 attack percentage. If Penn State wins this series finale, it will be the first time Penn State has won two consecutive matches against BYU since beating the Cougars in 1991 and then again in 1994.
