John Speraw will get his chance at Olympic redemption.

USA Volleyball announced Wednesday that it has extended the contract of Speraw to be the head coach of the U.S. Men’s National Team for the next three years.

The 2024 Olympics in Paris will be the third Olympics that Speraw will serve as the head coach. Speraw guided the team to a bronze medal in the 2016 games, but the United States at the Olympics earlier this year failed to advance beyond the preliminary round for the first time since 2000.

“We didn’t do very well in Tokyo, so I want to make it right,” Speraw said in a statement. “I want to get back out there and give it another shot.”

Despite not reaching the quarterfinals at the Olympics, the United States under Speraw had multiple medal podium finishes at international events during the latest quadrennial.

The United States won back-to-back silver medals at the 2018 and 2019 FIVB Volleyball Nations League. It also won bronze medals at the 2018 FIVB World Championship and the 2019 FIVB World Cup.

“It is a tremendous honor to represent Team USA,” Speraw said in a statement. “I love working with these athletes. It’s a unique environment. On Team USA, you can develop really good relationships with guys because they can be in the gym a long time.”

Speraw since being named the U.S. head coach in 2013 has simultaneously served as the head coach of the UCLA men’s volleyball team.

The Bruins in Speraw’s nine years as head coach have twice reached the NCAA Tournament semifinals and are No. 2 in the preseason national coaches poll for the upcoming season.
