The inaugural match for Fairleigh Dickinson will be against one of the top independent teams in the nation.

The first-year program as part of revealing its 2022 schedule announced it will play Queens in its season opener on Jan. 21 at the Harvard Invitational.

The Knights under coach Karl France enter 2022 with a 12-player roster comprised primarily of freshmen and have players from five nations. The Division I school from New Jersey will play this season as an independent and then will compete in the Northeast Conference when the league officially adds men’s volleyball in 2023.

Queens finished last season setting the program’s single-season record with 14 wins as it advanced to the IVA Tournament finals and earned the No. 8 ranking in the Division II national coaches poll. The Royals also return multiple starters, including middle JP Payne who was named the 2021 Independent Teams Player of the Year.

This could be the first of two possible meetings between Fairleigh Dickinson and Queens this season.

The Knights will conclude their inaugural year traveling to Queens to compete in the IVA Tournament on April 22-23.

Along with playing Queens at the Harvard Invitational, Fairleigh Dickinson will conclude the two-day non-conference event against King on Jan. 22.

Fairleigh Dickinson following these matches will play Long Island on Jan. 25 in the program’s inaugural home match. This will be the first of six matches for the Knights against NEC schools.
