Initial look at EIVA Tournament opening round matches

The college men’s volleyball postseason will officially get underway with the EIVA.

The conference tournament opening round will begin Friday. Check out the match ups and the historical tidbits to know before filling out your EIVA Tournament bracket.

No. 3 seed George Mason (14-6, 11-5 EIVA) vs. No. 6 seed Sacred Heart (1-19, 0-16 EIVA)
Match vitals:
7 p.m. Friday in Fairfax, Virginia
Season series: George Mason swept both matches during a two-match series in March.
All-time series: George Mason leads 17-3
EIVA Tournament championships: George Mason (1984, 1985, 1988, 2016); Sacred Heart (none)
NCAA championships: George Mason (none); Sacred Heart (none)
Next up on the bracket: The winner of this match will advance to play the No. 2 seed NJIT in the semifinals.
Stats to know: George Mason is on a 13-match winning streak against Sacred Heart dating back to 2014 and has never lost a home match to the Pioneers.In addition, Sacred Heart has never won a postseason match in its program history.

Season series: Charleston swept a two-match road series in February, and then Saint Francis swept a two-match road series in March.

Next up on the bracket: The winner of this match will advance to play the No. 1 seed Penn State in the semifinals.
Stats to know: Saint Francis is making its first postseason appearance since 2017, while Charleston is making its first postseason appearance in program history. This also will be the first EIVA Tournament home match for Saint Francis in the last 12 years.
