The final block of middle attacker Jason Donorovich’s match-high nine block performance officially put an end to the upset scare for No. 10/9 Penn State.
Donorovich and outside attacker Henrik Falck Lauten closed out the match with back-to-back blocks as Penn State defeated USC 23-25, 29-27, 27-29, 25-23, 15-12 on Sunday in University Park, Pennsylvania at the Big Ten/Pac 12 Challenge.
Three Penn State players finished with double-digit kills and hit more than .400, including outside attacker Brett Wildman who had a team-high 19 kills on a .486 attack percentage. Opposite Calvin Mende contributed 17 kills on a .452 attack percentage, while outside attacker Bobby Wilden finished with 11 kills and hit .421 to help Penn State extend its winning streak to four matches.
Donorovich also had nine kills on a .471 attack percentage to go along with his defensive performance.
Despite the loss, USC out-hit Penn State .381 to .371. Opposite Kyle Gear led the team with 19 kills and was one of four Trojans to have double-digit kills.
