Erskine as part of unveiling its 2020 schedule announced it will travel to play Queens in a non-conference match on March 31.
This match will resume the teams’ non-conference series after a one-year hiatus. Queens during its inaugural season in 2018 swept a home-and-home series against Erskine, including a three-game victory on Senior Night.
Erskine finished last season in eighth place in the ConfCarolinas and advanced to the conference tournament quarterfinals. The Fleet are attempting to have their first winning season since reaching the NCAA Tournament and winning the conference championship in 2016.
Setter Francisco Pomar also returns to Erskine for his sophomore season after spending this offseason playing for Puerto Rico in the FIVB U21 World Championship.
Queens in 2019 won a program-record 10 matches and at IVA Tournament defeated Coker in the semifinals to advance to the championship match.
Three starters who earned 2019 Off the Block All-Independent Team honors return for the Royals, including libero Ruben Greenstein. In his first season in the Queens starting lineup, Greenstein finished among the national leaders with a 2.05 digs per game average.
The match versus Royals will be one of five matches that the Fleet will play against independent teams in 2020. Erskine will have a home-and-home series against Alderson Broaddus along with road matches against Tusculum and the defending IVA Tournament champions Lincoln Memorial.
