A freshman who helped Barton secure the program’s fourth consecutive 20-win season is receiving a national honor.

Off the Block announced Monday that Barton outside attacker Adrian Iglesias was selected as the Off the Block National Freshman of the Week.

Iglesias had 12 kills on a .478 attack percentage and added six digs as Barton swept Queens on Friday for its 20th win of the season and to extend its winning streak to 14 matches.

Along with this performance in a non-conference match, Iglesias had 12 kills and hit .526 in a four-game victory versus Belmont Abbey on Thursday to help Barton remain in first place in the ConfCarolinas. He also finished with 10 kills and eight digs in a four-game victory against Mount Olive on Tuesday.

This is the first time a Barton player has been named the National Freshman of the Week since opposite Angelos Mandilars in 2017.

The National Freshman of the Week is presented each week during the regular season to the NCAA Division I-II men’s volleyball freshman who had the most outstanding performance. The winner is selected by the Off the Block staff and is announced every Monday during the regular season on the Off the Block website, offtheblockblog.com.

Along with the National Freshman of the Week, Off the Block will present the Freshmen All-American Team at the end of the regular season.

Off the Block is a national award winning website that launched in 2011 and is the nation’s leader in college men’s volleyball coverage.
