Non-Conference Matches

No. 2/2 UCLA (2-0, 0-0 MPSF) vs. No. 12 CSUN (2-1, 0-0 Big West)

What to know:
UCLA comes into the match 2-0 after defeating Princeton and UC San Diego at home. Hawai’i transfer opposite Brandon Rattray has made an immediate impact as he leads to the Bruins in kills (28) and digs (15). Junior middle attacker Daenen Gyimah leads the Bruins in aces (7) and blocks (10). As a team, UCLA is outhitting their opponents (.372 to .144) and outserving their opponents (20 to 10 aces). On the other side, CSUN comes into the match 2-1 after defeating Concordia Irvine and Harvard, but losing to No. 14 Grand Canyon at the ASICS Invitational at UC Santa Barbara this past weekend. The Matadors are led by senior outside attacker Dimitar Kalchev (preseason First Team All-Big West) and middle attacker Daniel Wetter (the reigning National Freshman of the Week). As a team, CSUN is also outserving their opponents (29 to 20 aces).

What to know: Pepperdine won their first matches of season, defeating Princeton and UC San Diego at home. The Waves rank in the top 10 in most statistical categories, including kills per game (8th), hitting percentage (4th), blocks per game (9th), aces per game (8th), assists per game (5th), digs per game (8th), and opponent hitting percentage (6th). Individually, the Waves are led by their outside attacker duo of David Wieczorek (Second-Team All-American, MPSF Player of the Year) and Michael Wexter (Second-Team All-MPSF) – both who are attacking at a rate of higher than .400 on the young season. UC Santa Barbara is 3-0 after defeating Harvard, Grand Canyon, and Concordia Irvine in the ASICS Invitational last weekend. The Gauchos rank in the top 5 in kills per game (5th), blocks per game (2nd), digs per game (4th), and opponent hitting percentage (3rd). Everyone returns from the 2018 UC Santa Barbara team, but they brought in some talented new pieces, including opposite Haotian Xia from China.
