All-EIVA setter Matthew Ctvrtlik and middle attacker Trevor Dow will both have a leadership honor for their next season with Harvard.

Ctvrtlik and Dow were selected by their teammates to be the co-captains for the defending EIVA champion Crimson in the 2019 season.

“Trevor and Matt possess all of the most important qualities we look for in our captains,” coach Brian Baise said in a statement. “They are both selfless leaders, who communicate well and lead by example, and they believe strongly in the core values of Harvard volleyball. I look forward to working with them in our collective effort to build a strong and cohesive group next year.”

Ctvrtlik as a sophomore last season helped run Harvard’s 6-2 offense and was in the conference’s top 10 with a 1.87 digs per game average. The setter also had more than five kills in nine matches, including eight kills on a .300 attack percentage in a four-game loss to UCLA in the NCAA Tournament opening round.

Dow finished the 2018 season third in the EIVA with 101 blocks. He also had double-digit kills in both EIVA Tournament matches highlighted with a season-high 12 kills while hitting .800 as Harvard beat Princeton in the finals to win its first conference title in program history.

Along with Ctvrtlik and Dow, Harvard returns two additional starters for the 2019 season.
