Both middle attacker Daenen Gyimah and outside attacker Jake Arnitz each had 12 kills in No. 5/4 UCLA’s sweep over No. 2/2 BYU on Saturday evening in Los Angeles.
With the sweep on Senior Night, 25-21, 25-23, 25-22, UCLA defeated BYU for the first time since 2014.
The Bruins hit .400 for match, while also out-blocking the Cougars by three. UCLA was led with six blocks from Gyimah.
BYU was unable to match their strong serving performance from Thursday’s sweep over Pepperdine. The Cougars were led by Gabi Garcia Fernandez’s 14 kills and Storm Fa’agata Tafunga’s nine kills.
Second-seeded UCLA will host seventh-seeded Stanford this coming Saturday in the MPSF tournament quarterfinal, while BYU will have the weekend off by virtue of securing the the top seed in the MPSF tournament.
