No. 2/2 Long Beach State (15-2, 11-1 MPSF) vs. No. 6/6 UC Irvine (11-5, 8-4 MPSF)

What to know: No. 6/6 UC Irvine will get its second look at No. 2/2 Long Beach State and attempt to achieve what it, along with every other MPSF team, has yet to do this season — slow down the 49ers’ offense. First-place Long Beach State enters this home match with a nation-best .381 attack percentage and has hit more than .400 in eight MPSF matches so far this season. In addition, Long Beach State had a .469 attack percentage and committed fewer than 10 attack errors in a road sweep against UC Irvine on Feb. 10. The 49ers since a conference-opening loss have won 11 consecutive MPSF matches and during the weekend became the first time in the nation to clinch a conference tournament berth. All-American setter Josh Tuaniga leads the nation with an 11.62 assists per game average and has a combined 11 aces in the last five matches. All-American outside attacker TJ DeFalco is sixth in the nation averaging a 4.16 kills per game and among the nation’s top 15 with a .397 attack percentage. The sophomore also has double-digit kills in the last six matches, including a match-high 16 kills on a .560 attack percentage in the previous meeting versus the Anteaters. UC Irvine is on a three-match winning streak and hit more than .300 in those matches. The winning streak has helped move UC Irvine into fourth place in the MPSF. All-American outside attacker Tamir Hershko was also named the AVCA National Player of the Week after having a season-high 23 kills on a .438 attack percentage in a five-game victory against No. 7/7 UCLA during the weekend. Along with Hershko, freshman middle attacker Scott Stadick is in the nation’s top 10 with both a 1.11 blocks per game average and a .443 attack percentage. Stadick also had a season-high 13 kills while hitting .500 in a five-game victory against No. 13 UC Santa Barbara on Saturday.
