OTB to debut International Player of Year award this season

A new national award will start this season to recognize the top international player in college men’s volleyball.

Off the Block announced Friday that it will present the inaugural International Player of the Year award to the best NCAA Division I-II men’s volleyball international student-athlete during the regular season.


This will be the first national award in the recent history of college men’s volleyball recognizing the outstanding individual performances of international players who are not only pursuing their volleyball career but higher education in the United States. Players from countries around the world have significantly contributed throughout the history college men’s volleyball helping teams win NCAA champions and earning numerous All-American honors.

The International Player of the Year winner will be determined at the end of the regular season by a nationwide voting committee of coaches and media members.

Players eligible for this award must be on the active roster of a NCAA Division I-II men’s volleyball team and from a foreign nation or U.S. territory.

Similar to other national awards that Off the Block annually presents, the International Player of the Year will be renamed in the upcoming weeks after a former standout international player in college men’s volleyball history. Off the Block in recent years started naming its national awards after former players in an effort to honor and incorporate the history of NCAA volleyball.

Off the Block presents several national awards at the end of the regular season including the Lloy Ball Award for the nation’s top setter, the Bryan Ivie Award for the nation’s top opposite, the Karch Kiraly Award for the nation’s top outside attacker, the Ryan Millar Award for the nation’s top middle attacker, the Erik Shoji Award for the nation’s top libero and the Flyer Award for the nation’s top NCAA Division II men’s volleyball player. It also presents the Off the Block/Springbak, Inc. National Blocker of the Year, the Off the Block/Springbak, Inc. National Server of the Year and the Off the Block/Springbak, Inc. Freshmen All-American Team.

Off the Block is a website that launched in 2011 and is the nation’s leader in college men’s volleyball coverage.
