Video: Freshman Gyimah’s big performance blasts UCLA past UC Irvine

The home debut of UCLA freshman middle attacker Daenan Gyimah at Pauley Pavilion could hardly have gotten any better.

Gyimah had a match-high 14 kills while hitting .737 as No. 2/2 UCLA swept No. 7/8 UC Irvine 25-16, 25-18, 25-22 in its MPSF opener on Thursday.

The Canadian freshman committed zero attack errors and had two of the Bruins’ seven aces against the Anteaters. In addition, UCLA out-hit UC Irvine .395 to .216 and committed a combined eight attack errors in the victory.
