Freshmen, sophomores dominates AVCA All-American Team list

The underclassmen were well represented on the AVCA All-American list.

The AVCA announced Monday that a combined six freshmen and sophomores were among the players to earn First-Team All-American honors.

This is one of the first times in the history of the AVCA All-American poll that three freshmen received All-American honors with UCLA setter Micah Ma’a and Long Beach State outside attacker TJ DeFalco making the First-Team. In addition, four sophomores received First-Team honors, while two sophomores were Second-Team selections.

BYU, Long Beach State, Ohio State, Stanford and UCLA each led all teams with three players earning a spot on an All-American list. The Cardinal were also the only team to have three First-Team All-Americans.

A 12-person voting committee comprised of head coaches from all four college men’s volleyball conferences selected the annually All-American Team.

  1. The amount of post season awards that Stanford is pulling in is a bit odd given their end-of-year collapse.
