A nationwide voting committee selected Loyola middle attacker Jeff Jendryk, Stanford middle attacker Conrad Kaminski and UCLA middle attacker Mitch Stahl as the three finalists for the inaugural Ryan Millar Award.
The Ryan Millar Award is presented to the best middle attacker in NCAA Division I-II men’s volleyball during the regular season.
Jendryk finished the regular season fifth in the nation with a .425 attack percentage and had 11 matches with double-digit kills, including a career-high 24 kills against St. Francis in March. The sophomore also was in the nation’s top 25 with a 1.02 blocks per game average and helped the defending-NCAA champion Ramblers earn the No. 2 seed for the MIVA Tournament.
Kaminski led the nation with a .487 attack percentage and had double-digit kills in nine regular season matches. In addition, the senior was second in nation with a 1.49 blocks per game average and had 15 matches with at least five blocks as Stanford earned the No. 4 seed for the MPSF Tournament.
Stahl was fifth in the nation averaging 1.25 blocks per game, including having a season-high 11 blocks in a victory against Hawai’i in February. He also had a .455 attack percentage and more than five kills in 16 regular season matches to help UCLA earn the No. 2 seed in the MPSF Tournament.
The voting committee for the Ryan Millar Award was comprised of about 25 college men’s volleyball head coaches and volleyball reporters from around the nation.
The overall winner of the inaugural Ryan Millar Award will be announced Friday, April 29.
The Ryan Millar Award is one of several end of season awards presented by Off the Block. Among the other national awards includes the Lloy Ball Award to the nation’s top setter, the Bryan Ivie Award to the nation’s top opposite, the Karch Kiraly Award to the nation’s top outside attacker, the Erik Shoji Award to the nation’s top libero, the Off the Block/Springbak, Inc. National Server of the Year and the Off the Block/Springbak, Inc. National Blocker of the Year.
Off the Block is a national award winning college men’s volleyball website that launched in January 2011.
