Lewis signs multiple all-state high school recruits

Two Wisconsin All-State outside attackers and a state finals most valuable player will join Lewis beginning in 2016.

Lewis announced earlier this week that high school seniors Dalen Instenes, Ryan Coenen, Kal Cromwell, Evan Gebert and Aaron Turner have all committed to play for the Flyers.

“All of these guys bring a great amount of experience, athleticism and volleyball IQ,” Lewis coach Dan Friend said in a statement. “They will all make their contributions and impact on the program as they grow. We are excited with this talented group of guys for the recruiting class.”

Instenes, a 6-foot-5 outside attacker from Racine, Wisconsin, ended his senior season as the 2014 county player of the year and a First-Team All-State selection. The outside attacker also had more than 1,000 career kills and 150 career aces with his high school team.

Coenen, a 6-foot-8 outside attacker from Franklin, Wisconsin, earned First-Team All-State honors as a high school senior. In addition, Coenen was named the 2014 conference player of the year and helped his high school win the conference championship.

Cromwell, a 5-foot-11 libero from Chesterton, Indiana, helped lead to his school to the state championship last season. He also was named the state finals most valuable player after having 21 kills and a .489 attack percentage in the championship match.

Gebert, a 6-foot-3 outside attacker from Fort Wayne, Indiana, plays club volleyball for Team Pineapple. The staff for this Fort Wayne based club team includes several former IPFW All-American players such as Lloy Ball and Jay Golsteyn.

Turner, a 6-foot-3 outside attacker from Waukesha, Wisconsin, has spent the last few years playing for his high school team and the Milwaukee Volleyball Club.

Lewis was ranked No. 9 in the preseason national coaches poll. In addition, the Flyers finished last season earning an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament.
