Mount Olive named host site for 2022 ConfCarolinas Tournament

The defending regular season champions will have the conference finals on its home court for the upcoming season.

The ConfCarolinas recently announced that Mount Olive’s Kornegay Arena was selected as the host site for the semifinals and finals of the 2022 ConfCarolinas Tournament.

“We are thrilled to be able to host our 2022 men’s volleyball championship semifinals and final on the campus of Mount Olive,” Commissioner Chris Colvin said in a statement. “Mount Olive has a long and strong tradition of hosting Conference Carolinas Championships, and we know that they will help us to provide our student-athletes a first-class experience.”

This is the second consecutive year the ConfCarolinas has established a predetermined location for its conference tournament semifinals and finals. Before last season, the ConfCarolinas regular season champions earned the right to host the tournament semifinals and finals.

Mount Olive ended last season winning its first ConfCarolinas regular season title in 10 years and lost to Belmont Abbey in the conference tournament finals.

The Trojans return multiple starters, including outside attacker Tobi Azeez. Azeez was the 2021 ConfCarolinas Offensive Player of the Year and spent the offseason competing with Australia in the FIVB Volleyball Nations League

The eight-team ConfCarolinas Tournament last season consisted of four rounds. The No. 3 and No. 4 seeds earned byes to the quarterfinals, while the No. 1 and No. 2 seeds received double-byes to the semifinals.

The 2022 ConfCarolinas Tournament will begin with the opening round matches on Wednesday, April 13 and the quarterfinals on Tuesday, April 19. The higher seed for these matches will be awarded home court advantage.

The tournament will then move to Kornegay Arena for the semifinals on Friday, April and the finals on Saturday, April 23.
