There is still uncertainty whether the NORCECA U21 Pan American Cup will take place, but USA Volleyball made its first step to establishing a roster for the international event.

USA Volleyball announced Monday the 20 college players selected to the U.S. Men’s Junior National Training Team.

The team is slated to train in August in Colorado Springs, Colorado, before the roster is cut for the Pan American Cup, which will also take place in Colorado Springs. This schedule could be altered, though, because of the coronavirus pandemic that has resulted in more than 80,000 deaths in the United States.

The U.S. roster features two Freshmen All-Americans from the shortened 2020 college men’s volleyball season — Lewis setter Kevin Kauling and Long Beach State libero Mason Briggs.

Both Princeton and UCLA led all schools with three players making the training team. Lewis, Long Beach State, Pepperdine and Stanford also had multiple players make the U.S. roster.

Along with these schools, BYU, Grand Canyon, Ohio State, Purdue Fort Wayne, UC Irvine and UC Santa Barbara each have one representative on the training team.

Almost half of the U.S. roster were members of the U.S. Boys’ Youth National Team last year. The team qualified for the FIVB U19 World Championship and advanced to the Round of 16.
