    The spotlight will be on the West Coast as two men’s volleyball matches will be nationally televised tonight.

    No. 1 UC Irvine looks to snap its two-match losing streak as it travels to No. 3 BYU in match that will air on BYUtv. In addition, No. 2 Stanford and No. 7 USC will make history tonight — becoming the first two men’s volleyball teams to play on the Pac-12 Network.

  • My men’s volleyball media poll ballot

    UC Irvine and Stanford received the same amount of first-place votes, but the Anteaters remain atop the new national media poll.

    UC Irvine received five first-place votes and 94 points to finish four points ahead of No. 2 Stanford in the latest college men’s volleyball media poll released Tuesday evening.

  • UC Irvine beats UCLA to repeat as UC Santa Barbara Invite champions

    Outside attacker Connor Hughes stepped up when No. 1 UC Irvine need him the most in the championship match of the UC Santa Barbara Invitational.

    With No. 6 UCLA leading UC Irvine 13-12 in the decisive fifth game, Hughes had two kills and a block on the final three plays of the match as the Anteaters rallied to beat Bruins 25-17, 25-17, 24-2, 25-24, 15-13 on Saturday in Santa Barbara, Calif.

  • Top 5 men’s volleyball matches to follow tonight

    It’s only the first Saturday of the regular season, but there is plenty of intrigue for volleyball fans with tonight’s matches.

    No. 1 UC Irvine and No. 6 for the second straight year meet in the UC Santa Barbara Invitational championship match, but this time coach John Speraw is on the UCLA sidelines. In addition, No. 2 BYU looks to avoid an upset and remain perfect in the MPSF as it plays a home match against Hawai’i.

  • Top 5 men’s volleyball matches to follow tonight

    Opening day is here and within the first hours of the season chaos has already hit the national rankings.

    The UC Santa Barbara Invitational continues tonight with two semifinals matches, while No. 5 Lewis looks to recover in the tournament’s consolation bracket after being upset. In addition, BYU looks to begin its run at a conference title as it opens MPSF play.

  • Players to watch for the 2013 AVCA Player of Year award

    BYU outside attacker Taylor Sander and UC Irvine outside attacker Kevin Tillie are the preseason favorites to win the biggest individual award in college men’s volleyball, but the field is still wide open.

    With the NCAA men’s volleyball season beginning this week, there are several candidates who could be the 2013 AVCA Player of the Year this season.
