Quincy releases 2012 schedule: 5 things to know about this schedule

A seven-match homestand to close out the season and four road matches against teams from the Conference Carolinas highlights the 2012 Quincy regular season schedule that the team released Thursday.

Quincy ended last season in sixth place in the MIVA and reached the conference tournament semifinals for the first time in program history. The Hawks have four starters returning for the upcoming season, including outside attacker Joseph Sokol who led the team in kills last year.

St. Francis releases 2012 schedule: 5 things to know about this schedule

Seven matches against MIVA teams to open the season and a 14-match conference season highlights St. Francis’ 2012 schedule as the team last week releases its regular season schedule for the upcoming season

The Red Flashes finished last season in fifth place in the EIVA Tait Division and lost in the opening round of the conference tournament. St. Francis coach Mike Rumbaugh has six starters returning for the upcoming season, including Second-Team All-EIVA libero John Wappler.

Off the Block Fan Choice Player of the Year: Round 1

Off the Block created the bracket and seeded 64 of the best college men’s volleyball players. Now it’s up to you determine who should be the Off the Block Fan Choice Player of the Year.

The Off the Block Fan Choice Player of the Year tournament is the only contest that allows the fans to completely determine who should be the national player of the year.

The online voting for the 32 first-round matches will end at 11 p.m. Wednesday. The winners will advance to the second round Thursday.

Off the Block Fan Choice Player of the Year tournament to begin Wednesday

The Off the Block Fan Choice Player of the Year will begin Wednesday, giving fans from around the nation the opportunity to determine the best college men’s volleyball player during the 2011 season.

Off the Block has created a six-round 64-player bracket tournament matching up the best men’s volleyball players. Now it’s up to the fans through online voting to determine who should be the winner of each match-up.

Every round will last one day with the polls closing at 11 p.m. (EST). The player with the most votes when the polls close will advance to the next round.

My men’s volleyball media poll ballot

There will not be any type of split national champion in men’s volleyball this season.

Ohio State received every first-place vote to be ranked No. 1 in the final men’s volleyball media poll released Tuesday.

Ohio State defeated UC Santa Barbara in five games in the NCAA championship match to become first MIVA team to win a national title in the 42 years of the NCAA Tournament. The Buckeyes jumped up six spots to No. 1 from the last media poll that was released at the end of the regular season.

Top 5 men’s volleyball matches to follow tonight

Multiple conference titles could be clinched tonight.

No. 1 USC, No. 9 Penn State and Mount Olive can all clinch conference regular season title with victories today. Along with these teams, No. 6 Ohio State has a chance to become the first time in more than 10 years to finish the MIVA undefeated.

Top 5 men’s volleyball matches to follow tonight

After two weeks of teams primarily playing non-conference matches, the conference season has returned in full force this weekend.

Already two of the top five teams have lost this week and three more of the top-five teams have conference matches tonight. In addition, tonight features No. 5 Ohio State and Ball State renewing the oldest Midwest men’s volleyball rivalry and two conference leaders playing each other in one of the few non-conference matches.

Final 2 spots on my media poll ballot this week leaves room for debate

It’s about 1 a.m. Sunday and I’m sitting at my computer desk, shaking my head with all the match results now in for the weekend.

The top eight spots are set for my voting ballot this week in the ASICS/Volleyball Magazine Men’s Division I-II Media Poll. It’s the final two spots that have me pondering late into the night as I get ready to go to sleep.

Parity doesn’t make it easy for a poll voter and I have about five teams who could move into my top 10 ballot this week.
