  • Top 5 men’s volleyball matches to follow tonight

    Just consider tonight’s top matches the sequel to Friday.

    No. 1 BYU and No. 6 USC headline the night as they conclude their two-match series after the Cougars won the opening match in four games. In addition, No. 5 Penn State continues its Midwest road trip as plays No. 7 Lewis tonight.

  • Top 5 men’s volleyball matches to follow tonight

    For the first time this season, a large chunk of the men’s volleyball national spotlight shifts away from California for the night.

    No. 1 BYU opening a two-match series against No. 6 USC in Provo, Utah, and No. 5 Penn State going on the road to play Loyola highlights several of the big matches tonight outside of California. Inside the Golden State, though, two top-five ranked play each other No. 3 UCLA plays host to No. 4 Stanford.

  • VIDEO: Mochalski sets school record in No. 4 Stanford sweep of Loyola

    Stanford middle attacker Eric Mochalski had 10 kills and set a school single-match record with a .833 attack percentage as No. 4 Stanford swept Loyola 25-19, 25-11, 25-21 on Saturday in Palo Alto, Calif.

    Mochalski, who had zero attack errors on 12 attempts, broke the Stanford rally-scoring record that was previously held by Craig Buell who had a .824 attack percentage in a 2003 match against UC Irvine. Stanford (3-0) out-hit Loyola (2-4) .468 to .169, and Mochalski was one of three Cardinal players to have at least 10 kills and a .450 attack percentage in the sweep.

  • Top 5 men’s volleyball matches to follow tonight

    Several matches tonight could be previews of Final Four matches in four months.

    Three matches tonight pit top 10 ranked against each other teams, including No. 1 UC Irvine and No. 3 BYU closing out their two-match series. In addition, No. 5 Penn State renews its rivalry with No. 8 Ohio State, while No. 6 Long Beach State and No. 10 Pepperdine meet each other in conference play.

  • Top 5 men’s volleyball matches to follow tonight

    And just in case you didn’t get enough top 10 teams play each other Friday, there are more of these matches today.

    Seven of the top 10 ranked teams will be in action Saturday. Highlighting these matches is battle between the two undefeated teams — No. 2 BYU and No. 3 UC Irvine — in the UC Santa Barbara Invitational championship match.

    The biggest event this weekend is the UC Santa Barbara Invitational, which features a No. 1 versus No. 2 match-up and a NCAA championship rematch. However, there are also several other non-conference and conference matches of interest today.
