  • Men’s volleyball 2012 All-Snubbed Team from All-American honors

    All of the All-American teams are out and as is the case every year there are players who can make the argument they got snubbed.

    The AVCA and Volleyball Magazine each recently released their 2012 NCAA Division I-II men’s volleyball All-American teams. All the athletes selected to these teams are well deserving, but with any All-American list there is a group of players who just missed out.

    Check out the top 10 non-All-American players who had a case to earn the national honor this year.

  • Volleyball Magazine reveals 2012 Player of the Year, All-American teams

    USC continued to pick up more individual national accolades — almost sweeping Volleyball Magazine’s top three annual awards.

    Trojans outside attacker Tony Ciarelli was named the 2012 Volleyball Magazine Player of the Year, while setter Micah Christenson won the Freshman of the Year award. In addition, USC coach Bill Ferguson and former UC Irvine coach John Speraw both earned the magazine’s Coach of the Year honors.

  • Decision made: Speraw leaves UC Irvine to become head coach at UCLA

    John Speraw 10 years after leaving UCLA to build UC Irvine into national powerhouse is now returning to to the Bruins.

    UCLA athletics director Dan Guerrero announced Tuesday that Speraw has been hired to replace Hall of Fame coach Al Scates as the head coach of the UCLA men’s volleyball team.

  • AVCA releases 2012 high school boys’ volleyball All-American team

    Twenty incoming college freshmen were selected to the boys’ volleyball AVCA High School Senior All-American Team on Thursday.

    Penn State and UCLA led all teams having three recruits who were named high school All-Americans.

  • Ball State’s Leske wins 2012 Off the Block Fan Choice Player of the Year

    Ball State middle attacker Matt Leske defeated Stanford All-American libero Erik Shoji in the championship match Thursday to win the 2012 Off the Block Fan Choice Player of the Year.

    The Fan Choice Player of the Year recognizes the best individual performances from NCAA Division I-II men’s volleyball players during the season and gives volleyball fans from around the world the chance to decide the winner through online voting on the Off the Block website.

    Stanford libero Erik Shoji or Ball State middle attacker Matt Leske will end Thursday winning a national award — and it’s up to the fans to determine the winner.
