David Kniffin one year after leaving UC Irvine will now return to the school to become its next head coach.
The UC Irvine athletics department announced Monday morning that it hired Kniffin to be the head coach of the defending NCAA champions Anteaters.

Anyone who missed Pepperdine coach Marv Dunphy win his 500th career match will get a chance to see him try to accomplish the feat again.
Dunphy moved back below the 500-win milestone earlier this week after the NCAA vacated Pepperdine’s 66 victories from 2008-11 because of NCAA rule violations — dropping the Hall of Fame coach from 532 to 466 career wins.

More than 10 men’s volleyball incoming freshmen recruits ended their club careers with top individual honors at the nation’s premier tournament.
Fifteen recent high school graduates who have committed college men’s volleyball teams for the upcoming season were selected Wednesday to an All-Tournament Team at the USA Volleyball Boys’ Junior National Championships.

Pepperdine will have to vacate its most recent MPSF championship and have scholarship reductions during the next three years because of NCAA violations.
The NCAA Division I Committee on Infractions announced Tuesday that Pepperdine was sanctioned for failing to monitor its athletics department and improperly distributing financial aid to student-athletes.

A group of UC Irvine alumni and fans are campaigning online for David Kniffin to become the Anteaters’ next head coach.
An anonymous UC Irvine volleyball alumnus recently created the website hirekniffin.com, which is encouraging the volleyball community to contact the school’s hiring committee with endorsements for Kniffin.

For the first time in the four years, a men’s volleyball will not receive NCAA sanctions for a sub-par academic performance.
No college men’s volleyball scored less than a 920 out of a possible 1,000 to earn penalties in the latest Academic Progress Rate report that the NCAA released Wednesday.

The new Volleyball Magazine Fab 50 is out, but if history is any indication less than half of the players selected to the list will make an all-conference team in college.
Of the last five Fab 50 classes to complete their four-year college careers, only 23.2 percent of those players have earned Division I-II all-conference honors at least once during their college careers.

The West Coast had the majority of incoming freshmen recruits on the 2012 Volleyball Magazine Fab 50 list, but several other areas of the nation were also well represented on this list ranking the top high school volleyball recruits.
Use the Off the Block interactive map below to view where all the Fab 50 selections came from this year. The markers on the map indicate what conference the recruit will play in during the upcoming season — blue for the EIVA, red for the MIVA and yellow for the MPSF.

It took John Speraw less than a week since being hire at UCLA to begin to fill out his assistant coaching staff for the upcoming season.
Speraw announced Monday that former Loyola Marymount outside attacker and UC Irvine assistant coach Brad Keller will serve as UCLA’s assistant coach for the 2013 season.
